Education
system in India is quite different from that of US. India has
two types of universities. The one which are residential and
offer on campus class-room education and the other which either
do not offer any class-room education or only master’s classes
and has a number of affiliated schools & colleges. For example
all IIT’s and IIM’s falls under the first category, whereas
University of Delhi or University of Mumbai would fall under the
second category. In US all bachelor degrees irrespective of
major subject or discipline are known as BS but it is different
in India. A bachelor degree with commerce as major would be
known as B.Com, a bachelor degree with history as major would be
known as B.A. and a bachelor degree with physics as major would
be known as B.Sc. The same criteria apply to Master degrees.
Social
Security Number issued in US has no relevance in India. Date of
birth is useful to identify a candidate but records are not
maintained by date of birth. Father’s name in case of unmarried
male and female candidates and husband’s name in case of married
females plays important role in identifying a candidate.
Although
computerization of records is in progress in all educational
institutions/schools but except for the IIT’s, IIM’s and newly
established educational institutions and for search of recent
records, most of the schools are dependent on old records. These
are in paper form and are highly voluminous. It takes time for
schools to dig out old volumes.
To get
verification from an IIT or IIM even if we give them name of
candidate, year of graduation and name of degree earned, it may
suffice but to get faster response from most of the educational
institutions in India, we suggest for following input
information:
a)
Name of
applicant as in University/School
b)
Name & atleast
location of school attended
c)
Dates attended
or date of graduation
d)
Exact name of
degree earned like B.A./B.Com/B.Sc/B.E.
e)
Roll
Number/Registration Number/Hall Ticket Number
f)
A copy of
diploma certificate
g)
Copy of release
or authorization
Note:
1) It is
impossible to get copies of transcripts
2) A good
number of universities/schools charges for giving information.
