This is the fee which university or school would charge in order to provide authentication to third parties such as Background Screening Agencies.

Is it really required ? What are the advantages ?

Yes, it is required.

Advantages

  1. Authentic response is guaranteed.
  2. High quality verification with complete verification details.
  3. In case of disputes , proof of verification is required.
  4. In case of errors in educational documentations, a written confirmation can help candidate rectify the error.

Drawbacks ?

To be honest – NONE.

But reality is much different.

The cost of education verification in high due to these university/school fee. Unfortunately not many organisations are not willing to accept these charges or are in denial about it but that is the reality. It is an accepted fact that Background Screening is a cost for HR departments, and in majority of the organisations unfortunately it is just a check box on the list of checklist during onboarding of candidates. A change has been observed and organisations have warmed up to this concept but the wide acceptance is still very low.

My advice to human resource managers, procurement managers, business owners and other C-level decision makers is to always account for university/school fee as part of your budget allocation for background checks. This cost is unavoidable and this will increase every year!
